La Kukita at the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week Fall – Winter 2015/16

15 Feb

Last week, from the 2nd of February until the 5th of February 2015, the city of Barcelona had Fashion Fever yet again.

The 15th bi-annual 080 Barcelona Fashion Show took place at the famous Barcelona Maritime Museum, where designers and brands, some of them for the first time, showed their Fall – Winter 2015/16 collection.

This time I wanted to see as much designers and brands as possible and due to my hard work and a bit of luck I got so many invitations that I was totally flattered.

Based on the collections presented at the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week I can truly say that the upcoming Fall – Winter 2015/16 season will not only consists of the usual colors of the time of the year, black and grey, but it will bring more brightness and colors into our lives. To all fashionistas, we can look forward for the next upcoming colorful Fall/Winter fashion season.

During the last week I truly enjoyed every single fashion show and I hope you will enjoy reading about the Spanish Designers and Brands as well.

Samer Santiago from Two S – The man of the pearls

18 Jul

“El hombre de las perlas” – the man of the pearls, this is how I would describe the designer and founder of the jewelry brand Two S, Samer Santiago.

Samer Photo

The man of the pearls – Samer Santiago

A few months ago, I met the designer of Two S at the “ Inderum” showroom event in Barcelona as you can read in my previous post.

Later, I had a chance to visit him in his studio in Barcelona and talk to him a little bit more about his work. In his office he introduced me to the world of pearls and showed me his new designs and projects he is currently working on.

Office of  Two S in Barcelona

This time we had a little bit more time to talk about his work and I got some interesting facts about the creator behind the brand Two S.

Before Samer started creating and selling his own jewelry designs, he worked for several years in different countries, such as Spain, Switzerland and Australia, offering exclusive pearls to his demanding customers. Having enjoyed enormous success in these kinds of fields, he still did not feel satisfied with his work, so in 2010 he decided to go one step further and start his own business with his exclusive jewelry brand Two S.

The designer gets his inspiration from the architecture of famous buildings and represents it in his creations. Every single piece of his jewelry collection is handmade and therefore unique. Some of the pieces are made by him personally.

In his office he showed me the raw materials that he is using for his new jewelry collection. They are made using only natural materials like tropical wood, pearls and diamonds. For the first time in my life I had more than a handful of real pearls around my neck valued at thousands of Euros. I have to admit that it was a nice feeling having the cold pearls on my skin. He also explained to me the quality differences between the pearls and their value. Depending on the purity of the pearls the prices can vary from 30 – 600 Euros for one single pearl.

Inderum – The new concept of pop-up stores

Inderum – the new concept of pop up stores

La Kukita Inderum

Last weekend, from 21 – 23 March 2014, a special event took place in one of the luxurious apartments of Barcelona, at Sixtyfour Apartments in Passeig the Gracia.

This new concept of pop up stores combines art, fashion, design and culture. The idea is to give emerging designers the opportunity to present their products to a wide audience and support locally – produced products. Therefore, the organizers of the Inderum event, Maribel Casado and Cristina Blasquiz, carefully selected 40 exclusive local brands and designers to present their unique products to the guests.

The visitors were entertained with activities and promotion of all kinds. There, you could have your nails done, discover the latest fashion trends from local designers, get inspired by artists and taste local food specialties.

I had the perfect chance to meet different type of people, get to know each brand and talk with the designers in person.

Here are some of my favorites:

Unique Jewelry made by Two S Barcelona

After spending a long period of his life in Jordan, the designer and founder of the jewelry brand Two S, Samer Santiago decided to move and live in Barcelona.

Inspired by his beloved country and the magical city Barcelona, he started to create jewelry that represented his feelings. The brand Two S was born with the goal to offer jewelry with a mix of Western modernity and the traditional world of the East.

The philosophy is to merge modern and traditional world and combine it into one. The designer gets his inspirations from the architecture of famous buildings and represents it in his creations.

The name Two S comes from the 2 “S”’s in his initials Samer Santiago, but the letter “S” stands also for sensation, sensitivity, sense and survival…

The designer is using new and alternative materials as well as diamonds in his creations. Each piece is carefully handcrafted and therefore exclusive and unique. In his new collection he includes tropical wood materials like cocobolo and kingwood.

The clothes are all made based on conscious, ethical and ecological criteria in Barcelona using high – quality fabrics. The collection is very limited, so you can be sure that you probably won’t see someone on the street wearing the same dress as you!

Trendy DIY Bags Ideas

19 Mar

Are you bored with using regular bags? Are you looking for something special?

Here is some inspiration for you:

Designer brands and grocery brands? This is hip right now. Designers create bags with the grocery labels on them. The results are great. If you don’t want to buy a designer bag, create your own bag.

Recycling is THE trend, so if you are short on cash, make a Capri – Sonne Juice bag. You just have to drink a lot of Capri – Sonne Juice and sew all the small bags together.

Looks pretty cool and is the perfect bag for the beach!

You’re clutch is too boring. Pimp it up with a little smiley face made out of Lego pieces.

As kids we had a star glitter plastic cup.  As grown ups we prefer to wear a butterfly glitter globe clutch. Get the box clutch on darbysmart.com and create your own butterfly glitter globe clutch.

You can pimp up your bag by adding some fun accessories like the Minie Mouse or Daisy Duck.

Another idea is to use a plastic gummy bear as a clutch.

You can get the clutch from the designer Charlotte Olympia or a cheaper version from the website thinkgreek.com and decorate it as you want it.

Last but not least, just take an old black leather bag and write the message that comes up in your mind with a different color.

30 Jan

You love handmade accessories? You like accessories in macrame style?  Mamachavaya macrame is the name when it comes to macrame.

971169_1399521843595928_1527627296_n

I met the designer of Mamachavaya while I was working over the summer in Intimissimi store in Barcelona. I saw her immediately when she entered the shop since she had her own style and this is what I liked about her. I started a conversation by giving her a compliment about her cool style and her accessories she was wearing that day. She told me that she is a designer and that she creates all the eye-catching accessories. Thanks to a friend from Brasil who introduced her in the world of macrame design she started to create and sell those pieces at different festivals.

Mireia sells her beautiful designs on different festivals in Europe but you can buy her selected pieces on Etsy.com http://www.etsy.com/shop/MaMachavaya.
